Happy Birthday Rachel!

...belated :). Rachel's birthday was on Saturday the 19th. Because the air conditioner was completely out of commission (but thankfully has since been fixed), we had to improvise.
On Friday, Nana, Poppa, Aunt Janet and Uncle Andrew came out to celebrate. We went to a gourmet pizza joint, and then across the street to Baskin-Robbins. We devoured a small ice cream cake right there in the store! (They gave us napkins and wax paper...but it was still a bit of a mess). I brought candles and matches in my purse, so we could sing to Rachel properly.
Rachel got some Sesame Street videos (from the 70's! Good stuff), and a cute tiger named Jandrew (named after Uncle Andrew and Aunt Janet). Rachel is already hooked.

On Saturday, Grandma, Grandpa, and Great-Grandma O. came out for dinner. We went to claim jumper, where Rachel got her piece of Mud Pie, and we all sang to her again. Then we went back home (it was cool enough by then), and hung out on our back patio. Rachel got a School Bus scooter toy and a play cell phone. Again, big hits :).

Conversations:

Me: Rachel, how old are you?
Rachel: Are you two?

Me: Did Nana and Poppa come to visit?
Rachel: For Happy Birthday Rachel!

Me: Rachel, was it your birthday?
Rachel: Did you have cake? Did you have presents? Did you blow candles?

(Notice how she phrases many things in the form of a question. What a cutie!)

A cutie indeed. Happy birthday!

You're in for such a treat having a sibling for Rachel! It is tough at (many) times, but the moments come when you finally hear a conversation between the two kids while you're out of the room (and it's not an argument about toys ending in crying) that just about melts your heart.

I'll be praying for you guys.
